7 Steps to Success
Step 1: Vision
Start by creating a Vision.
- Imagine what you would really, really love your future life to be like. What would make you satisfied, enthusiastic?
- Reflect on some of the experiences you have enjoyed most.
- Write a paragraph for each major area of your future life (family, career, education, interests, recreation, health, finances, friends, giving to others, spiritual well being, etc.).
Step 2: Brainstorm
Brainstorm the things you could do to make your Vision actually happen.
- Type or write your ideas as fast you can.
- Don’t bother about spelling or putting them in any order. Running Start™ will help with that later.
- Aim for at least ten action ideas for each paragraph of your vision.
Step 3: Organize
Manage your ideas by organizing.
- Use your ideas from Brainstorming to create Action Steps.
- Organize your Action Steps into groups of connected ideas.
- Give each group an Objective or Outcome.
Step 4: Prioritize
Prioritize your objectives to focus your resources.
- What is important to get done first?
- How does completing this objective first clear the way for your other Objectives?
- Give your Objectives names, so you can easily remember the outcome.
Step 5: Stage of Accomplishment
Determine your Stage of Accomplishment to see what more you need to do, and what is your next step.
- What Objectives have you reached?
- “Running Start™” show you how to figure out the Stage of Accomplishment, i.e. exactly where you are in each step.
Step 6: Identify Constraints, Opportunities
Identify the Constraints and Opportunities to understand the best path for your success.
- Are you far enough along on your top Priority?
- Have you worked on the easy stuff first?
- What’s getting in the way (i.e. Constraint) of achieving your Vision,
- How much more could you get done (i.e. Opportunity)?
Running Start™ shows you a Success Matrix that gives you a picture for each Objective and the Stage you have reached compared to your Priority. Even if you are really determined, you just don’t have enough resources (time, energy, money) to do everything at once. The Success Matrix shows you where to focus and to break through in logical sequence.
Step 7: Action Plan
To actually make your Vision come to life, put it all into an Action Plan.
- Work with each Objective and sort all the action steps into groups that make up projects.
- Set “milestones” for each project which keep you on track and alert you to when you are falling behind, so you can decide what to do about it.
Complete all 7 steps, and you’ve got a plan! You know exactly what to get done, and when.
Congratulations, and best wishes for your Personal Life Success Plan!
