Before I came to Running Start, I was hoping for an opportunity to learn how I could make a difference in the federal policy making space. My lived experience is both positively and negatively affected by policy decisions made in DC: decisions that are rarely made by the underrepresented communities who will be most impacted by them.
One of the most key pieces of advice I received early on in my career was to remember that today's intern could be your boss tomorrow. I've always been taught to treat the CEO and cleaning staff of a company the same, but that piece of advice stuck out to me as something that I had never thought applied to the world of politics. Also, if you are a Spanish speaker, there is always a need for your skills in the world of public relations. I credit that early advice to my career path today!
